What you do:
The purpose and charter of ANU is to provide training in the martial art of Aikido as a way to develop healthy physical and mental life skills and self-confidence for children and adults. Aikido is a martial art of Japanese origin practiced by millions of citizens worldwide for its defensive skills and fitness benefits. Aikido stresses peaceful resolution of conflict whenever possible and avoidance of inflicting injury. Adult classes offer methods of managing stress, developing physical fitness and flexibility, learning self-defense skills, and improving general health. Training includes meditation and breathing exercises for concentration and awareness, and also increases self-confidence and energy. Youth gain discipline, self-confidence, and self-respect while learning a peaceful art at a pace they will appreciate and enjoy.
History with Whittier Community Center
The Aikido of Northern Utah (ANU) studio (Jyushinkan dojo) at the Whittier Community Center was initiated in 1993 under the leadership of Mr. John Fitch, Professional Architect, who participated in the renovation of the Whittier Center. At the invitation of Ms. Marsha Rawlins, Center Director at the time, Ron Sims, Chief Instructor, made a presentation to the Board of Directors of the Whittier Community Center. The goal of ANU is to contribute to the Cache Valley Community by developing individuals who seek to improve the community through training and working together in the spirit of cooperation and support. Aikido stresses peaceful resolution of conflict whenever possible and avoidance of inflicting injury, and can be translated as a way to harmonize with energy. ANU extends gratitude to the Whittier Community Center after 19 years of service to the Center and to the Cache Valley Community.
Alarms and Break-ins, Oh MY!
April 24th, 2012This past weekend we had two events that were a bit scary. Saturday someone pulled the fire alarm and ran. No damages besides my heartburn! One of the alarms upstairs is still buzzing (softly) and will be fixed Wednesday.
Second, we had a break in and approximately $2000.00 worth of tools and equipment was stolen. If you have heard anything please contact the Logan City Police department.

DON’T FORGET THE LOGO CONTEST!
UPDATE ON FIRE ALARM–The alarm burned out the panel. We are getting a new one. All the alarms in thew building will buzz. Its ok (but annoying). The system works for the time being.

We perform at a variety of shows, venues, and events throughout Logan and Salt Lake City. These include:
- Sandstorm – One of Shimmering Sands’ largest productions which showcases dancers from all over Utah who perform all different styles of belly dance. Join us Friday, May 18 at 7:30 in the USU TSC auditorium.
