Well its beena long time without a post so I thought I would like to update a few things.

First of all, we had a great Vittles and Fiddles event. The silent auction was a big success for being in its first year. I would like to thank allt he volunteers and food donors that helped out. I will make a post later listing those groups. We are starting to plan next years event so if you would like to be a part of a fun and worthwhile adventure, let me know.

Second, we now can take credit cards if you would like to rent the Whittier. We finally entered the 1990′s…Change is hard!

Third, we are looking for a volunteer who can post updates here and on the Whittier Center’s Facebook page. Email me if you are interested. Don’t forget to “like” the Whittier!

Fourth, the Society for Creative Anachronism is planning this years Renfaire. Watch this space for updates.

Finally we have added a new photography and video policy. It is posted by the main office door but re-posted here.

I. PURPOSE

The purpose of this administrative regulation is to set forth a photography policy addressing the

parameters under which noncommercial photography and video filming may take place at the Whittier Community Center, hereafter the Whittier, facilities while preserving the rights of Whittier users to use Library services.

II. POLICY

It is the Whittier’s most significant priority to enhance our community and neighborhood while preserving the historically significant Whittier building accordance with the values described in the Whittier’s Mission Statement, and to enable guests to use those services while having a safe experience at the Whittier. To achieve this, the following rules apply to photography and filming in the Whittier’s facilities:

Amateur photography: The public areas in Whittier facilities are part of the public environment and, therefore, casual noncommercial photography intended to record a visit is permitted, provided that such photography does not interfere in any way with the Whittier’s operations or capture identifiable likenesses of individuals without their permission. Individuals who photograph or film must honor requests from individuals who do not wish to be included in any photography. Photos of minors are prohibited without the permission of their parent or legal guardian. Individuals wishing to take photographs or film of the Whittier buildings and/or inanimate objects for personal use may do so without special permission, as long as no additional equipment such as supplemental lighting is used. Non-profit filming projects that require special equipment, staff involvement, or after-hours access, should be referred to the Executive Director’s office.

Commercial photography: Individuals or organizations seeking to do photography or filming for commercial purposes, including wedding or engagement photography are referred to the Executive Director’s office at 435 753-9008.

Media Photography: Staff and tenants are directed to notify the Executive Director when news media are in the Whittier’s facilities, or have requested use of the Whittier facilities for photography or filming activity.
