The Department of Kinesiology and Health Science at Utah State University offers a one-credit Aikido class each semester, taught by Sensei Dr. Ron Sims. The class offers a basic overview of the art of Aikido, including philosophy, self-defense techniques, breathing, falling safely, meditation and other major themes.
Students must enroll and register at USU through the usual channels, but there is no prerequisite for the class, and no previous martial arts training is required. No commitment to join the Jyushinkan Dojo is expected, although many current Jyushinkan members were first introduced to aikido through the USU class.
No uniform is required, but students should plan to wear sports/exercise clothing that covers your knees and elbows. Students with physical limitations can be accommodated.
Check Banner at USU to confirm time/place, but our typical schedule is:
Fall Semester: Fridays, 1:30 – 3:15 PM
Spring Semester: Fridays, 1:00 – 2:45 PM
Course Fee for Semester: $50
